SUMMARY:Truth and Reconciliation KidsFirst Regina Red Dress Event
DESCRIPTION:Starting May 1st efforts continue to honour SHA and KidsFirst Regina’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Activities focused on education and creating space for healing will be carried out with KidsFirst Regina families and agencies. The activities are designed to honour those who were lost to violence and the survivors affected by Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two Spirit and LGBTQQIA+.\nVictoria Matechuck is a local Indigenous Artist/Maker from New Generations Beading. KidsFirst Regina has commissioned Victoria to make 5 red dresses for display. One adult sized red dress that will be displayed at the main KidsFirst Regina office and four toddler sized dresses to be displayed in our respective KidsFirst Regina agencies.\nKidsFirst Regina will support the dresses and the work indoors because our work is city based and our families are located in an urban area. Additionally, we intend to preserve the art that Victoria Matechuck has created for us for many opportunities to come.\nEarly Years Family Resource Centre hosted a Red Dress event on May 9, 2023. Victoria Matechuck was in attendance to present the art pieces. Elder Joyce helped us honour the art pieces with prayer for the home visitors and home visiting agencies to move the work forward in a way that honours those lost, and the survivors still with us.\n
