Success Through Support: Ansh’s Story of Community and Determination

, , ,

In 2023, Ansh Bokha took a big step by moving to Canada to pursue a diploma in General Science. Adjusting to a new country while keeping up with his studies wasn’t easy. Then, fellow community members told him about the Regina Open Door Society (RODS), a place that supports newcomers like him.

Wanting to make the most of his opportunities, Ansh visited RODS to get help with finding a job. The counsellors there helped him understand the Canadian job market and identify his strengths. Inspired by their advice, he signed up for workshops on resume writing, interview skills, and networking.

Ansh also attended networking events, where he met industry professionals and learned more about the job market. He faced some setbacks along the way, but he didn’t give up. Instead, he used those challenges to push himself harder.

With newfound skills and confidence, Ansh started applying for part-time jobs. His hard work paid off when he landed a position as a Concession Supervisor at Compass Group. This job didn’t just help him financially—it also gave him real-world experience and helped him build his communication and leadership skills.

Looking back, Ansh has some advice for other newcomers:

“Take advantage of the support in your community. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from places like the Regina Open Door Society. Go to workshops, meet people, and make connections. Keep an open mind and don’t give up—success takes time, but each step gets you closer to your goals. Remember, you’re not alone; many others have been in your shoes.”

Ansh’s story shows how important community support is and why it’s good to grab opportunities when they come. With his diploma and work experience, he’s excited about his future in Canada.
