Mentorship for Skilled Newcomers

Pathways to Expertise is a career-focused mentorship program designed to support skilled newcomers in advancing their professional goals in Canada. The program connects participants with experienced employer mentors for a minimum of 3-month commitment of one-on –one structured support. Mentors provide personalized guidance, industry insight, and support in navigating the Canadian workplace.

Participants will receive assistance in developing a tailored career plan, understanding credential requirements, strengthening job search and networking strategies, and building confidence in professional communication and workplace culture.

The program Mentorship – Pathways to Expertise is made possible through funding by RBC.

The Mentorship Program Offers:

Personalized Strategy and Insight

Start with a personalized needs assessment and receive ongoing individualized counselling and career planning/goal setting.
Gain current, invaluable insight into your specific Canadian industry, including skill demands, corporate structures, and unadvertised opportunities.

Job Search Tool Kit Development

Your mentor will help you translate your international experience into a competitive Canadian resume and effective job search strategy.
Receive constructive feedback on your professional pitch and mock interview preparation from a dedicated professional.
Comprehensive support for resume, interview, and personal marketing development.

Professional Fluency & Networking

Receive practical guidance on professional communication, workplace etiquette, and effective networking within the Canadian professional context.
Gain exclusive access to networking events, employer presentations, site visits, and training opportunities.

Eligibility

18 years or older
Open Work Permit holder, Permanent Resident, Canadian Citizen or Refugee (in Canada for less than 5 years)
Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5 or higher
Able to commit to a structured, minimum 3-month mentorship cycle and actively participate in program activities

How to Apply

Interested participants must complete a registration form and attend an information session to determine eligibility and fit.

Employer Mentors Wanted!

We are also actively recruiting volunteer employers interested in sharing their expertise and supporting the professional growth of skilled newcomers. Mentors should have relevant experience in their industry and a willingness to provide practical guidance and encouragement.
