Meet Hewan Meselab Abrha - 2014 Newcomer Bursary Recipient
My name is Hewan Abrha and I was born in Sudan. I have one sister and one brother. Before coming to Canada, I completed my grade eleven in Sudan. After we moved to Canada, I began at Balfour Collegiate but I was afraid becasue I was not able to converse in either English or French. It was hard for me to communicate with teachers and students at Balfour Collegiate and the Canadian education system was totally different from Sudan.
After starting at Balfour Collegiate I met teachers and students and I was very happy because they were so nice and friendly. In the beginning it was very hard, because the language was too hard, but later on, with the teachers help and support, everything went perfectly. I am proud and happy to be a Balfour Collegiate student. Balfour is a place where I can freely participate in everything. I love choir and I have taken part in it since I first came to Balfour. I have taken part in the REmembrance Day performance and I'm very proaud to have been a part of this important ceremony. I will miss all the good time I have had in high school.
I plan to continue my education at the University of Regina in Business Administration. I am very excited for University and I hope that it will be a great learning experience. As part of Balfour Collegiate, I have appreciated working with such nice teachers and students. Now Regina Open Door is giving me the opportunity to further my education at the University of Regina in order to get my degree with this scholarship.
Thank you for Regina Open Door Society for this opportunity.
