Do you know how to get an employer’s attention on LinkedIn? LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network on the internet and a part of the “hidden job market.” You can use LinkedIn to showcase your employability skills; search for and apply to work opportunities, and connect with important people in their industry. In this workshop, you will learn how to create an effective LinkedIn profile that will help you grow your professional network and attract attention from recruiters. In addition, this workshop will teach you how to manage your online presence while also sharing some strategies for staying safe online.

What will you learn?

This workshop will teach you how to manage your personal brand via LinkedIn and how to effectively use LinkedIn as a job search and networking tool. The following topics will be covered in this workshop:

  • Creating a LinkedIn account
  • Choosing a professional headline and photo
  • Developing a recruiter-friendly profile
  • Understanding Endorsements
  • Building your network
  • Applying for jobs on LinkedIn
  • Avoiding job scams

When you finish this workshop, you will:

  • Know how to develop a strong LinkedIn profile
  • Have confidence in your ability to grow your professional network
  • Be able to recognize and avoid common job scams

Who is eligible for this workshop?

Workshops are intended for newcomers to Canada (focusing on, but not limited to, newcomers within the past 5 years), ages 16 and over, who experience cultural and/or language/literacy barriers to employment.

Daytime workshops require CLB 5+. Evening workshops require CLB 3+.
