LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network on the internet and a part of the “hidden job market.” Job seekers can use LinkedIn to showcase their employability skills; search for and apply to work opportunities, and connect with important people in their industry. This workshop will walk you through the process of creating an effective LinkedIn profile that will help you to grow your professional network and attract attention from recruiters. In addition, this workshop will teach you how to manage your online presence while also sharing some strategies for staying safe online.

Who is the workshop for?
This workshop is for all newcomers who experience cultural and/or language/literacy barriers to employment. You need to be over 16 years old and demonstrate CLB 5+ in English proficiency. What will you learn?
LinkedIn Mastery will teach you how to manage your personal brand via LinkedIn and how to effectively use LinkedIn as a job search and networking tool. The following topics will be covered in this workshop:
- Creating a LinkedIn account
- Choosing a professional headline and photo
- Developing a recruiter-friendly profile
- Understanding Endorsements
- Building your network
- Applying for jobs on LinkedIn
- Avoiding job scams
What should you expect from this workshop?
This online workshop is meant to help newcomers learn to use the social media site LinkedIn to its fullest potential. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, participate in discussions, and feel comfortable making mistakes. Your instructor will use a variety of methods, including videos and class discussions, to present the information.
After completing the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Develop a professional-looking LinkedIn profile
- Know how to apply to jobs via LinkedIn
- Feel confident networking online with other people
- Identify strategies for recognizing job scams and remaining safe online
