MS Word Fundamentals for Employment

Whether you have never used Microsoft Word before or are looking for an opportunity to increase your skills, this workshop will give you the tools to effectively use this program in the workplace. This workshop offers participants the opportunity to receive an introduction to MS Word, its user interface, and the most common tools used when creating and formatting documents. Participants will receive direct instruction and practical examples and activities that will develop and reinforce the skills needed to create cover letters, resumes, and other documents through Word.

What will you learn?

This workshop offers a comprehensive overview of the fundamental tools in MS Word. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn and practice their MS Word skills, receiving personalized feedback from a knowledgeable instructor. Key topics include:

  • MS Word user interface
  • Creating documents and working with text
  • Formatting and layout
  • Working with pictures, tables, and other objects

When you finish this workshop, you will:

  • Know how to navigate MS Word
  • Be able to format text, adjust layouts, and use a variety of MS Word tools
  • See how these techniques can be applied to a variety of job search tools

Who is eligible for this workshop?

Workshops are intended for any newcomers to Canada (focusing on, but not limited to, newcomers within the past 5 years), aged 16 and over, who experience cultural and/or language/literacy barriers to employment.

Daytime workshops require CLB 5+. Evening workshops require CLB 3+.
