The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is a non-profit organization that provides settlement and integration services to refugees and immigrants in Regina. RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services that enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.
The Regina Open Door Society Inc. is seeking a qualified individual to staff a permanent full-time position of Employment Readiness Instructor. The start date for this position is March 1st, 2019.
The Employment Counsellor will provide individual and small group employment counselling to newcomers to Canada to assist them to find work and succeed in the Canadian workplace.
o Bachelor’s degree
o Training and experience in employment counselling
o Experience working with newcomers to Canada including those with limited English language skills
o Strong leadership and problem solving skills
o Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration and organization skills
o Proven accountability, resourcefulness, initiative, and professionalism
o Recognized ability to work cooperatively in a cross-cultural setting
o Strong technological skills; ability to use a database
o Proficient in MS Office Suite; Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and database
o Knowledge of the local labour market, employment standards and community resources
o A valid driving license
Job Description - Primary Responsibilities
o Provide individual and small group employment counselling to newcomers
o Identify barriers to employment and develop action plans, as needed
o Assist clients with résumés and cover letters, job search, job applications, job interviews, etc.
o Refer clients to employment readiness workshops and programs
o Refer clients to other RODS services or external organizations as appropriate
o Enter client data into the database, keep records and do reports
o Follow-up with clients for employment maintenance and evaluation
o Liaise with job developers to tap in the hidden job market and employment opportunities for clients
o Other duties as assigned
Hours of work
Hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour-unpaid lunch break each day for the total of 33.75 hours per week and an EDO every two weeks. The annual salary for this position is $47,341.45 ($26.98 per hour) at the probationary level of RODS Professional Category 1.
