Are you a Saskatchewan resident working in a professional field and looking to give back to your community?
The Mentorship Program at Regina Open Door Society is seeking mentors like you to help newcomers navigate the challenges of entering their professional field in Canada.
As a mentor, you will be matched with mentees who are new Canadian immigrants with professional backgrounds. Your role will be to offer guidance, advice, support, and insights into the field, local labor market trends, and workplace culture. By sharing your knowledge and expertise, you can help these newcomers achieve their career goals, learn about the industry, understand the professional requirements, develop a professional network, navigate the recruitment process, and identify and develop in-demand competencies.
There are two ways to participate in the program as a mentor. You can meet with a mentee once for a virtual coffee and chat about job requirements, workplace norms, offer any relevant advice and tips you may have, as well as answer any questions that the mentee may have. This commitment is only for one hour of your time. Alternatively, you can meet with a mentee 3-4 times over 30 days to offer more in-depth guidance and advice about the requirements of entering into your field. This commitment is for 3-4 hours of your time.
For Mentees
You must be eligible to work in Canada, have an English language skill level of CLB 6 or above, have a Bachelor’s degree completed outside of Canada, have at least two years of professional work experience in a profession outside of Canada, not have Canadian work experience in their field, and have lived in Canada for five years or less.
