Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT)
What is CLBPT?
The Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test (CLBPT) is a FREE national standardized assessment designed to measure a person’s English language proficiency in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
What can the CLBPT be used for?
RODS provides the CLBPT only to Work-Permit holders looking to register in provincially-funded language or job training programs, such as our Stage 1 & 2 classes.

This CLBPT cannot be used for immigration and academic purposes.
The CLBPT is also NOT accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada as proof of language ability for citizenship purposes (see the CIC for language requirements for citizenship).

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be Work-Permit holders
- Must register with Immigration and Career Training

Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
What is CELPIP?
The CELPIP Test is one of Canada’s leading general English tests for immigration, citizenship, and professional designation.
The CELPIP Test allows test takers to demonstrate their ability to function in English in one sitting with quick online results.
The test clearly, accurately, and precisely assesses a test taker’s English abilities in a variety of everyday situations, such as communicating with co-workers and superiors in the workplace,
interacting with friends, understanding newscasts, and interpreting and responding to written materials.
There are two types of CELPIP tests – General and General LS.
- CELPIP – General
The CELPIP – General evaluates test taker’s English listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills and is officially designated for permanent residence applications by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and is also accepted for professional designations. - CELPIP – General LS
The CELPIP – General LS evaluates test taker’s English listening and speaking skills and is officially designated for citizenship applications by IRCC. This test is also accepted for professional designations.
