Are You a Temporary Foreign Worker in Need?
A new project designed to support Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) in need is now active across the Prairie Provinces. The aim of this Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) funded project is to establish a coordinated approach to meet the unique needs of TFWs, with a focus on increasing migrant workers’ awareness and understanding of their rights and responsibilities, empowering them to exercise their rights by assisting them to access services available to them and providing access to events designed to promote inclusion and belonging.
The project presents an opportunity for a collaborative partnership between three umbrella organizations and five immigrant serving agencies, to work alongside employers and host communities within the respective regions to provide assistance to temporary foreign workers (TFWs).

Our program staff will work with TFWs to address identified needs and provide specific information accordingly.
Orientation and information
Our program delivers plain language information and orientation sessions on identified issues that affect TFWs, including systems orientations focusing on:
- Employment (employment standards & rights; work permits; health and safety at work)
- Financial (income tax; CRA benefits; EI; financial literacy)
- Physical health (COVID vaccination, sports and exercise, winter/summer safety)
- Mental health (emotional wellness, resiliency & mental health)
- Social (social connections, inclusion; relationship building)
- Consular services
- Human rights and self-advocacy
- General Settlement information
Referrals
Our program will provide TFWs with holistic support through referrals to other services in our own organizations and within our identified network of partners, agencies and institutions through the Prairie provinces who can offer help in areas such as housing, food access, legal aid, family violence, physical and mental health, addiction, trauma counselling, case management, income support, among others. After providing referrals, our program staff will follow up with clients to confirm that they connected with the suggested programs, services or resources and determine whether the referral has or will effectively meet the client’s questions or needs.
Community Connections
Our program will provide TFWs opportunities to deepen their connections to their peers and community by participating in different events like conversation cafes, sports, recreation and cultural programs. This will help the TFWs to be able to increase their social connections, sense of belonging and improve language skills.
Translation and Interpretation
Our program will provide interpretation and translation services to TFW clients, service providers and employers to ensure that important public health guidance is communicated in the client’s first language. The objective of these services is to ensure that client and other service providers are able to understand each other and that clients fully access the services and supports they need.
