Public Speaking Workshops by Toastmasters International (Adults)
The Toastmasters’ International program, in partnership with Regina Open Door Society provides language services and public speaking to engage newcomers in learning, practicing, improving and developing public speaking, writing and leadership skills.
Offered to newcomer adults’ permanent residents with CLB 5 and above. It is a year around program offered during Fall and Spring every Tuesday from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM.
Integrating Newcomers with Volunteering Opportunities to Add Leadership through Valued Education (INVOLVE)
This program helps newcomers understand the culture, role and history of volunteerism in Saskatchewan and Canada. It explains how non-profit organizations are structured and how they generally operate. It gives them a platform to identify their skills, attributes, and interests to find opportunities to contribute successfully.
It is a 6-week program offered three times a year. It is open to refugees and permanent residents with Canadian Language Benchmark: CLB 5+
Involve participants will also get the opportunity to attend the INVOLVE Indigenous History & Culture Sessions.
Offered to newcomer adults permanent residents with CLB 5 and above. It is a six weeks workshop offered every Saturday.
Creative Writing (Opening Doors through Stories)
The WCN program collaborated with Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild to implement the Creative Writing Workshop. This program is offered to newcomers looking to write their stories with power, imagination and confidence. The five sessions, the participants will have the opportunity to explore their own histories and discuss while expanding their own language literacy skills.

Conversation Circles
WCN Conversation Circles program for adults’ newcomers provides an opportunity full of fun and interactive activities and a safe environment to learn, practice, and improve their Basic English language skills. The Conversation Circles program facilitates volunteers from the community to build and develop teaching strategies to help newcomers’ progress well. The newcomers’ will have the opportunity to participate in one on one or group settings to learn, practice and improve their Basic English language skills as well as learning about Canadian cultures, and building new social networks.
Offered to newcomer adults permanent residents with CLB1-4. It is a year around program offered every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5:00PM-7:00PM
Canada Connects
WCN assists newcomers to become more familiar with their community, establishing supportive social networks, and enhancing their ability to meet their settlement needs. As a mentor, volunteers are matched, as part of Canada Connect program with newcomers’ families for a period of one year to help newcomers’ families to participate, integrate, and settle well in the community. The volunteer mentors assist the newcomer family improve their language skills, build social and professional networks, learn about life in Canada and Regina, and prepare newcomers eligible for work in Canada.
This program is offered to newcomer family’s permanent residents. It is a year-round program and volunteers spend 4 hours a month with the newcomer families.
Cultural Awareness Training (Public & Private)
Our Cultural Awareness program provides training about immigration statistics & terminology, the newcomer experience and tools for working with newcomers, and how to assist newcomers in their settlement and integration. We also include topics like Culture, Culture shock, bridging cultural barriers among Canada’s diverse population, newcomer’s contributions, and effective communications techniques.
This program is available to community members, organizations, and newcomers.
Our public session happens once a month. We also have private sessions available. These sessions can be scheduled at a time that fits your organization’s needs.
