Yasaman Hadian’s Path to Success
Starting a new life in Canada comes with many challenges, especially when it comes to finding a job. For newcomers, the job search can feel overwhelming, but the right support can make all the difference.
Yasaman Hadian knows this journey firsthand. Originally from Iran, Yasaman arrived in Canada in the summer of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and years of experience working with children. She was eager to start her career in Canada but quickly realized that navigating the job market in a new country was not easy.
Overcoming Barriers to Employment
Like many newcomers, Yasaman started looking for work on her own. However, without a clear understanding of the job market, it was difficult to know where to begin. She felt uncertain about her qualifications and how to present her experience to employers.
Determined to find a job, Yasaman turned to the Regina Open Door Society (RODS) for support. At RODS, she met with an employment counsellor who took the time to listen to her story, understand her skills, and guide her through the job search process. With personalized support, Yasaman:
- Updated her resume to highlight her strengths.
- Gained confidence in job interviews with expert coaching.
- Learned effective job search strategies to find the right opportunities.
A New Beginning: Yasaman’s Success
With renewed confidence and the right tools, Yasaman applied for a position at the YMCA Before and After School Program. It was an exciting opportunity that matched her skills and passion for working with children.
Though she was nervous about the interview, the guidance she received from RODS gave her the confidence to showcase her abilities. Soon after, she received the news she had been hoping for—she got the job!
Now, Yasaman is thriving in her role at the YMCA, making a difference in the lives of children every day. She is grateful for the support she received and excited about the future.
Advice for Newcomers Looking for Work
Yasaman’s journey is a reminder that every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Her message to other newcomers is simple:
Don’t be afraid to ask for help—employment services can provide the support you need.
Believe in yourself and your skills—your experience is valuable.
Stay persistent—finding a job takes time, but with dedication, success is possible.
